This is the website of Light Up Your Street, a project by artist Lucy Harrison, who collected song lyrics from residents of the 5 London Olympic host boroughs for a projection event in Hackney Wick in September 2011. The projections took place during the Hackney Wick Festival on the evenings of 17th and 18th September, with a further event at the Yard Theatre, organised by Exchange Project Space, in October 2011.

The project was a celebration of all the different styles of music that are listened to in East London. Local residents were invited to choose a line from one of their favourite songs that somehow resonates with them and says something about the local area and their hopes for the future.

This project was commissioned by the Olympic Delivery Authority and was supported by the Greater London Authority.  It was inspired by one of the ODA’s art commissions “RUN” by Monica Bonvicini which will be installed inside the Olympic Park this Autumn.
